Brochure Directions: These are for the California Brochure Project that is due on August 29, 2017.
Based on the information we have been studying in our California textbook, please make a brochure on the paper provided in class of a special city in California. Please include the area's region, elevation (range is fine), significant water sources, climate, nearby natural resources, and land use. Draw a map to assist in reaching this locations and pictures to illustrate it, and write nearby attractions and/or overnight accommodations. Your brochure can be written out neatly or typed, though information needs to be in your own words. You may choose to cut and paste pictures and maps or tables, or create a layout on the computer.
Have fun with this and use your textbook as a reference!

End of Year Social Studies Project: California, Here We Come!
After forming, with your teacher's help, a group, select a lesson from Chapters 7-11 in your Social Studies text. Your group is then responsible for completing the following sequence of activities that will culminate in an oral presentation designed to teach your class about the lesson.
Please note that the visual aspects of this project will be on display during our May Open House.
Activities:
1. With your group, read the lesson and complete the reading outline that accompanies it.
2. Learn about the people, places, and vocabulary associated with the lesson by taking notes from the lesson and from other sources. Be sure to reference sources in your notes.
3. Make a list of any questions you have and meet with your teacher for clarification.
4. Create a presentation board that includes:
-the chapter number and lesson title,
-the names of you and your group members,
-a "Language of the Discipline" section that explains vocabulary related to the lesson,
-a "Details" section that explains key facts and key people associated with the lesson,
-a "Patterns" section that connects your lesson's information to other parts of California's history or history at large,
-a "Big Idea" section that presents and proves an idea you associate with the topic of your lesson,
- pictures, with credits, that illustrate the topic, and
- a work's cited page, on the back of the board, that documents sources used.
In addition, you will need to select one of the following choices and prepare, in-class, a visual about your topic. STUDENTS MUST PROVIDE ALL VISUAL SUPPLIES. Choices are as follows:
-Using a regular sized poster board, create a collage of words and pictures that speak to your topic.
-Make a diorama that shows a scene related to your lesson's subject matter.
-Using a scrapbook album, develop a scrapbook of 8-10 pages on your topic. Include pictures/photos, personally written captions, articles, and
reflective journal sections on each page.
-Have another idea/ Discuss it with Mrs. Fuelling for approval.
